Raison d’etre

To begin with, the eternal question – Why this blog? I wish I had a more convincing answer. Let me still give it my best shot.

The ostensible reason – This piece on CJR by Basharat Peer says it all (Disclaimer – I don’t agree with his political views). The Acorn echoes the same view in this post and Prashant’s comments on The Indian Economy Blog – “After all, a primary catalyst behind IEB was the abysmal quality of most op-eds/ magazines in India w.r.t economic issues. We took matters in our own hands, and decided to write what we liked to read. . .” Let me also contribute my tuppence to the cause.

Now, the real reason. Nitin Pai invited me to be on the platform; Atanu Dey said that I must write (and explained the difference between writing and publishing); and Prashant consented for cross-postings on the IEB. This verse captures my emotions best:
“Come to the edge” he said
“We can’t, we are afraid”
“Come to the edge” he said
“We can’t, we will fall”
“Come to the edge” he said
And they came
And he pushed them
And they flew.
- Apollinaire

Thanks, Nitin. I will fly…

NB – I also blog sporadically on The Indian Economy Blog and I intend continuing with relevant cross-postings there. You can access my posts on the IEB here.
